I rank hotels by guest ratings and by how many reviews stand behind them, so a hotel with a 5-star average from 1,000 reviews ranks above one with a 5-star average from 10. I also look at location, what the property offers, how it looks, what guests say in their comments, and the price category (luxury, comfort, standard or budget). The weighting changes a little by article and destination. In a general best-of list I pick the top hotels in each price category, and in a luxury article I compare luxury hotels only.
